For Gruss

35 Years Ago This Week

According to Billboard Magazine, Thick as a Brick by Jethro Tull was the Number 1 album for this week in 1972. Released in England during April of 1972, Thick as a Brick got as high as the number five spot, but when it came out in America a month later, it hit the number one spot, making it the first Jethro Tull album to achieve greater popularity in America than in England.

The Kaye Effect

The Kaye Effect is a strange property of complex liquids which was first described by the British engineer Alan Kaye in 1963.

While pouring one viscous mixture of an organic liquid onto a surface, the surface suddenly spouted an upcoming jet of liquid which merged with the downgoing one.

This phenomenon has since been discovered to be common in all thixotropic liquids (liquids which thin under shear stress). Common household liquids with this property are liquid hand soaps, shampoos and non-drip paint. The effect usually goes unnoticed, however, because it seldom lasts more than about 300 milliseconds.

Ricky Jay

Ricky Jay is one of those character actors you have seen a hundred times on TV and in movies but never knew who he was. Most recently he has played the CIA handler on The Unit. I can also remember seeing him on the X files. Anyway, he is also a whiz with a deck of playing cards, not only with the slight of hand stuff, but also throwing them. Couple of vids, first dealing from the bottom of the deck (watch it all, the end is amazing), then card throwing.

OK, so my little blog has over 1000 hits now! w00t!!!

I've been searching for something to post up to commemorate this auspicious event, and this one kinda fell into my lap.

Maxim Magazines HOT 100 issue hits the news stands this Saturday, and #29 Sarah Silverman is on the cover. In honor of that, I present to you a couple of Sarah Silverman clips.
Any of you that know her comedy, know that this is completely NSFW, but way to funny.

First one is at the roast of Pamela Anderson: (Viacom removed it from YouTube due to copyright infringement) Replaced with a few minutes of stand-up. Sorry.

SNL

Last night, NBC had a special on with the best of SNL from the 90's. These are 3 of my favorite moments from recent shows, not too sure if they are from the 90's or 2K's. The first one is an episode of Debbie Downer where no one could keep a straight face, the second is an interview of Paris Hilton by Jimmy Fallon, and the third is the famous "More Cowbell" skit.

OK, one more...

Was the Warren Commission part of the cover-up?

Over my lifetime, I have probably watched the Zapruder film dozens of times. It is interesting to hear and see some of the inconsistencies that this film points out. It is a bit over 9 minutes long, but certainly worth watching. Our government involved in a cover-up? C'mon...

The Great Global Warming Swindle

Accepted theories about man causing global warming are "lies" claims a controversial new TV documentary.

'The Great Global Warming Swindle' - backed by eminent scientists - is set to rock the accepted consensus that climate change is being driven by humans.

The programme, to be screened on Channel 4 on Thursday March 8, will see a series of respected scientists attack the "propaganda" that they claim is killing the world's poor.

Even the co-founder of Greenpeace, Patrick Moore, is shown, claiming African countries should be encouraged to burn more CO2.

Nobody in the documentary defends the greenhouse effect theory, as it claims that climate change is natural, has been occurring for years, and ice falling from glaciers is just the spring break-up and as normal as leaves falling in autumn.

A source at Channel 4 said: "It is essentially a polemic and we are expecting it to cause trouble, but this is the controversial programming that Channel 4 is renowned for."

Controversial director Martin Durkin said: "You can see the problems with the science of global warming, but people just don't believe you - it's taken 10 years to get this commissioned.

"I think it will go down in history as the first chapter in a new era of the relationship between scientists and society. Legitimate scientists - people with qualifications - are the bad guys.

"It is a big story that is going to cause controversy.

"It's very rare that a film changes history, but I think this is a turning point and in five years the idea that the greenhouse effect is the main reason behind global warming will be seen as total bollocks.

" you gotta watch them people from Belize, they'll shank ya"

Found a great site http://www.nationmaster.com that has a mortality statistic page. What are mortality statistics you may ask? You can see the death rate per million population for handguns, rifles & shotguns, beaten to death, assault by sharp objects, (hahaha remember Monty Python and the pointed stick) knife, sword, or dagger, (thats where the post title comes from) even death by acne (who knew?). Anyway, I guess my point is we have a lot of people in the USofA, so it just stands to reason that we have more wackos than other places. It's a shame that we as a nation are ostracized internationally for our stance on personal firearm ownership. Gun control is not the answer, law abiding citizens aren't out shooting their neighbors. It is those who break the laws, or have mental disorders, that shoot innocent people. And yes it is a shame when people (especially children) are accidentally shot by weapons that were not properly secured, IMO any person who leaves an unlocked loaded weapon where a child could access it should be held criminally liable.

Last Post on this subject...

The story that will not die. This morning on Talk Radio 950 AM KPRC in Houston, The Michael Berry show, a woman named Joyce called in towards the end of the 7 o'clock hour who made more sense than anything I have ever heard. The whole hour is worth a listen, but if you let it load, go to about 3/4 of the way down the slider you can hear Joyce.

Bravo

I am personally not a fan of Don Imus, but the way in which he was railroaded for a really bad attempt at humor by AS and JJ (I refuse to post their names and get ads featuring them). These 2 morally devoid excuses for human beings should be imprisoned for the hatred they spew. Jason Whitlock writes for the Kansas City Star and also AOL sports. His latest column on AOL, contains another video from CNN where Jason confronts AS. Of course, it is impossible to get a word in edgewise with AS on his pulpit, but Jason does a credible job.
Bravo Jason Whitlock!

OK, Just one...

The other day my neighbor, who is blond, came running up to me in the driveway, just jumping for joy! I didn't know why she was jumping for joy but I thought, what the heck, and I starting jumping up and down along with her.
She said, " I have some really great news!"
I said, "Great! Tell me why you're so happy."
She stopped jumping, breathing heavily from all the jumping up and down, and told me that she was pregnant!
I knew that she had been trying for a while so I told her, "That's great! I couldn't be happier for you!"
Then she said, "There's more."
I asked, "What do you mean 'more'?"
She said, "Well, we are not having just one baby. We are going to have TWINS!"
Amazed at how she could know so soon after getting pregnant, I asked her how she knew. She said....
(You're going to love this!)

"Well, that was the easy part. I went to Wal-Mart and they actually had a home pregnancy kit in a twin-pack. Both tests came out positive!"

Worlds Smartest Dog?

HAHAHA

He snorted his Dad???

According to an article in NME Magazine, published today, Rolling Stones 63 year old guitarist Keith Richards is quoted as saying "The strangest thing I've tried to snort? My father. I snorted my father, he was cremated and I couldn't resist grinding him up with a little bit of blow. My dad wouldn't have cared," he said. "... It went down pretty well, and I'm still alive."

*UPDATE* According to this article from MTV.com, his longtime manager Jane Rose claimed that it was "Said in jest," and "Can't believe anyone took [it] seriously."

Wow...Just WOW

Neil Peart is the drummer for the band Rush. This is a vid from their 30th anniversary tour back in '04. Just another drum solo? The amazing thing about great drummers is the ability to have all 4 limbs work completely independently, this is a great example of this skill. The truly incredible part happens with about 2 minutes left to the video when he switches on the drum triggers (he uses Roland V-Drums) and reproduces an entire swing orchestra. WOW!
